On the 4th April 1846 a Convention was signed with China by which it was Stipulated, on the foot of the Emperor, that in the evacuation of Cleusan by the British forces, the island Should never be ceded to any other foreign Power, whilst. 4.16. J. Engaged, upon her part, in the case of the attack of an invader, to protect Cleusam and its dependencies, And to restore it to the Possession of China, without demanding Any Exeunary...
